Rich Components
Smart Client supports standard dashboard and application components such as tables, combo boxes and buttons. Many of today's applications require richer methods of visualization for data via interactive charts: live maps enabling drill down on objects; data-driven timelines; Gantt charts for processes; gauges for thresholding; hypergraphs for link analysis; and even documents which correlate data with other sources of information. Smart Client delivers all of this functionality, out-of-the-box, without the need for programming code.
Dashboard Functionality
Dashboards require more than just views of datapoints that sit side-by-side on the same screen: the data should be live; different metrics should correlate with one another; exceptions should be highlighted based on thresholds; and users should be able to drill down and explore related information regarding these exceptions - even if the information is in a different format (such as a document, XML, database, or web service).
Application Linking and Embedding (ALE)TM
ALE enables the linking of behaviors among components and applications on a single screen. Users are able to drill within applications, as well as from one application to another, without changing focus.
ALE overcomes the limitations of HTML-based web applications where any embedded link typically brings up a new page with no contextual link among the various web pages.
Rapid Application Development
Smart Client Builder (a component of the Smart Client Product Suite) makes it easy for developers to create new applications by leveraging extensive drag-and-drop capabilities to create correlated behaviors. The environment comes with a variety of out-of-the-box components that support rich application capabilities such as charting, GIS (Geospatial Information Systems), multimedia and word processing.
Smart Application Delivery and Management
Digital Harbor provides over 20 web services to manage just-in-time, just-enough streaming of applications, as well as security, caching, versioning and correlation of behavior. These services are comprised of JavaBeans and XML, applied at the interface level.
Standards Based Application Development Environment
Smart Client is designed for integration with your existing infrastructure, including data sources, J2EE application servers, and JSR-168 compliant portals. By providing a standards-based platform for managing the application consumption layer, Digital Harbor dramatically reduces the technical complexity of developing applications.
